In respect of this land, the Bill also provides for the removal of the status of the Crown-owned parts of the bed of the Whanganui River, namely conservation, Crown, national park, and reserve land held under certain Acts. The Bill provides that on the settlement date (the date that is 30 working days after the date on which this Act comes into force) the fee simple estate in the Crown-owned parts of the bed of the Whanganui River vests in Te Awa Tupua (but this does not include legal roads, railway infrastructure, structures or any part of the bed of the Whanganui River held under the Public Works Act 1981 or located in the marine and coastal area). Vesting and divesting of parts of bed of the Whanganui River in Te Awa Tupua Te Kōpuka is to be the participatory group in any statutory process for collaborative planning for freshwater management in the Whanganui River catchment (Part 2 (“Te Pā Auroa nā Te Awa Tupua-Te Awa Tupua framework”), Subpart 4, Clauses 29-34).
